Set your mission.

I was the kid with the five-year plans.

When I moved to America from Jamaica, at age 13, while in junior high school, I loved nothing more than spending time in the library reading and learning about the world. 

Some of the other students thought I was from another planet because I didn’t hang out at malls and fast-food joints, wear designer gear, or skip class. 

One of my new friends said to me, “Sherry, you are a 13-year-old-going-on-28. You are way too old for your age girl.”

I, of course, took her comment as a compliment. 

Learning how the world works was a lot of fun then, as it is now.

Set your mission, but be flexible, because plans will change and that’s the best bit.
