Our voice
Time to get ourselves super ready.
Black people, let’s talk about our voice.
Our voice is our superpower.
Be you.
I am, and have always been, my authentic self.
From when I left Jamaica, at age 13, and realised I can change my voice, I’ve been changing-it-up ever since.
How else was I going to keep Kenisha hidden until I found inclusive super creative people, who care about the world and its people, for my real mission?
I am multi-accented.
I have fun with it.
I can naturally speak in five different accents, and dialects, depending on how the mood takes me and who I’m with.
Mi can even write in Jamaican patois and English in the same sentence.
It’s nawmal to me.
And if I’m with you for 15 minutes or so, by the end of our conversation I can speak in your accent.
Our voice is our superpower.
Having that back, thanks.
Best wishes,
Kenisha (her / us)
